Jack, I was wondering what bloodwork a 38 (almost 39)-year old male vegan should get as part of regular physical – have not had bloodwork in nearly 2 years since going vegan. Here was what I was thinking:

    -fasting lipids, glucose, hsCRP
    -complete blood count (hemoglobin), ferritin
    -B12, homocysteine
-TSH (to rule out iodine deficiency)
    -vitamin D

I take vitamin D 1000 IU OD, kelp iodine 325 ug OD, B12 250 ug OD.

Is there anything more fancy than this that you would recommend? My diet is pretty restrictive as I don’t eat a lot of different things.

    Thanks.

    Hi Dan,

Here is a post I wrote on what vegans should get tested for:

    Your list looks pretty good.

Hi Jack, thanks so much for the advice. I was thinking of some other B vitamins, zinc and iodine (possibly urinary studies) but I think I’ll just stick with the bare minimum for now. Of course, if I was borderline or grossly deficient in some of these other parameters (B vitamins, zinc, iodine), I wouldn’t really know it without proper bloodwork.
