Ginny on Body Shaming

Ginny Messina: Body Shaming Fails Vegans and Vegan Advocacy

I couldn’t agree with Ginny more on this recent trend to promote veganism, if that’s what it actually does, by insulting people who are heavy.

Thanks for posting this Jack. I didn’t know about the ad but was disappointed and appalled to see it when I went to their website. As a formerly overweight person who struggled for years with body image and self-hatred I think this is a horrible and counter-productive approach to take. I have written PCRM to let them know that I think it is disrespectful and does a disservice to the vegan movement. Cynthia

p.s. your blog e-mail is going to a wrong e-mail address – how do I change that?

    Cynthia,

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you saying you want to subscribe a different one of your email addresses to the blog? If so, just resubscribe at the new email address by clicking the subscribe button in the upper right of any page on the website. Let me know if that’s not what you mean.

Jack, I agree w/ you and Ginny. Body shaming is not the way to go. I don’t think guilt or shame are ever effective in the short or long term. Let’s focus on the positive, and show people the joy of veganism, rather than point and laugh. Rude, for sure.
