Well, if you remember me, Jack, I would say “yes,” if your diet is big macs and fries, you will lose weight just switching to veggie burgers. And I do say that for some, it does work.
That said, I’m the one that actually gained weight when I went vegan. I read the book you suggested, “How to Become Naturally Thin by Eating More,” by Jean Antonello, and now I’m on the other side, with a weight gain of about 14 pounds. I’m still trying to eat a lot of produce, but still could use more advice.

So the book didn’t help, I take it? Remember, there is often a period of time where you might gain weight using Antonello’s program. How long have you done it? I’m not sure what you mean by “now I’m on the other side”.

Ha ha, what I meant by “now Iām on the other side” is that I’ve read the book, and I’m in the weight gain stage, and trying to hang in there. I read the book and started eating every time when I’m hungry back in August of 2011. I’m hoping that by continuing to focus on eating healthier and eating more produce, I can lose more weight. I just read Dean Ornish’s old edition of Eat More, Weight Less. I wonder if the new one has any new info.

Good luck. I’ll be very interested to know how it turns out. I follow it myself as much as I can. I try to stop eating once I’m full rather than finishing everything on my plate.

Me too. I am also working on cutting out most extra sugars and refined carbs, as well as fats. (Except for naturally occurring ones in moderation, like coconut, avocado, and olives, for example.)

I’m not real sure that cutting out fats is a good idea. Fat can slow down the movement of food through your digestive tract and give you a feeling of fullness and satisfaction. Not to mention that I think people will crave fat if they don’t eat enough. Your average vegan in EPIC Oxford eats 30% of their calories as fat and have low body masses. So, I think it’s actually a good idea to start a meal out with fat and eat slowly, letting the fat kick in. Hope that helps some.

Oh, I wouldn’t worry about that, I would say that I get enough with Daiya and other vegan foods. I just try not to saute/fry with it much, or put it on my food, like buttering my vegetables, or in salad dressing. Oh, and I love nuts, and eat cashews and all other nuts, I just try to keep it down to a reasonable amount.
